Researchers at the University of Ottawa have found that to lower cholesterol, psyllium seeds are more effective than using a low-fat diet. Psyllium bran also has the property of regulating blood sugar, as it prevents the rapid passage of glucose from the digestive tract into the blood.
Psyllium bran contains 14 times more soluble fiber than oats, appreciated until recently for its high fiber content. 100 g of psyllium contains about 71 g of soluble fiber, the same amount of oats – only 5 g of soluble fiber.
“Psyllium seeds or bran are added to 200 ml of natural juice, tea or water and drunk immediately because otherwise it quickly turns into a gel.”
“Fibers act in the gut like a sponge that absorbs toxins and stimulates transit.”
